Children in Scotland Magazine

Charting Scotland's children's sector from 2001-2021

Children in Scotland Magazine, featuring comment, insight and analysis of developments across the children’s sector, was launched in 2001 as a key part of our membership offer.

Over two decades, 201 issues and almost 4,000 articles, it charted advances in practice, policy and legislation across the children’s sector.

The magazine was a finalist in the 2018 PPA Scottish Magazine Awards (Member Magazine of the Year) in recognition of its quality of reporting and value to those working with children, young people and families.

In March 2020, in response to the global pandemic, we moved the magazine online and opened up access to read, download and share it as a free resource. These digital issues remain available to view (see links to previous issues on this page).

Moving online

In August 2021, the last edition of the magazine was published and content moved online, now taking the form of rolling news, responsive comment and short interviews.

This evolution of the magazine builds on the title's history and reputation and marks a step forward in our offer of high quality, topical and accessible content for the children’s sector.

It allows us to respond to how our network is consuming news and comment without the constraints of a publication schedule, offering scope to be more reactive and timely in the content published.

However, we felt it was important to still offer a high quality publication combining print and digital formats. With that in mind, Children in Scotland's communications team developed a new magazine for our membership in 2021.

The launch of Insight

In November 2021, we published the first edition of Insight. The new bi-annual publication provides a space for reflection, discussion and analysis on key topics and themes across the children's sector.

It complements the online magazine pages by offering space for a considered dialogue that opens up discussion and shares a range of viewpoints.

We hope it continues to act as a method to bring our varied membership together to share best practice, debate policy and identify how to help all children, young people and families thrive.

Members can access the latest edition of Insight in the Members Area. Not a member? Click here to email jdrummond@childreninscotland.org.uk for details on how to subscribe.
