'Heritage Brigade' 1st Troqueer Boys' Brigade and Dumfries Museum
May to September 2018
"(heritage is) what things mean to you."
"It's a big part of your past."
Working with Dumfries Museum the Boys' Brigade has been developing its own interpretations of heritage and have contributed to one of the museum's summer exhibitions.
As part of the museum's 'Fun and Games: Twentieth Century Toys Exhibition' the group has chosen a selection of five toys to be displayed as part of the exhibition. The objects have been chosen because of their significance to the owner and each comes with its own unique story. In addition, the Boys' Brigade will be helping to facilitate at the Toy Olympics event which is taking place on 31 July. As part of the Toy Olympics the group has developed the rules for the games and evaluation questions, and will be on hand to support on the day.
As part of the next stage of the project the group will be helping to support with the 'Records of War Exhibition.' For this next phase the group will be working to share their voices on things they feel are important to tell children and young people 100 years from today. They will share their voices in a range of way including: posters, drawings and short video clips etc. These will accompany and complement the ‘Records of War’ exhibitions allowing children to reflect on the past, present and future and share what is important to them.
