New project aims to empower the Third Sector

2 June 2020

Building on the success of the National Third Sector GIRFEC Project, Children in Scotland continues its commitment to supporting third sector organisations to become equal partners in Children and Families Services, through the launch of our new Supporting the Third Sector (STTS) Project.

The project’s focus will include support for the existing Third Sector Interfaces, as well as increasing local third sector engagement and strengthening local support structures.

In Scotland, the third sector has a longstanding role in supporting and informing statutory service provision, with robust structures in place to support partnership working.

Local children’s services networks, which are usually facilitated by the Third Sector Interfaces (TSIs), bring organisations together so they can support their peers, exchange good practice, share resources, develop collaborative working arrangements and help shape local services.

The aim of the Supporting the Third Sector Project will be to promote the importance of the structures that support and strengthen the third sector, building and empowering those local networks whose good practice, resources and locality knowledge enhance and inform activity at a national level.

Project manager, Vicky Wan, said: “The current situation with Covid-19 has shown how quickly and effectively the third sector can mobilise to deliver and maintain support to children as part of multi-agency plans during the pandemic.

The benefits of collaborative working are clear, and the Supporting the Third Sector Project will work to further develop local children’s services networks across Scotland, giving them a voice both locally and nationally.”

The Supporting the Third Sector Project will build on the learning from the National Third Sector GIRFEC Project, and continue to work closely with local and national partners to further embed third sector’s role in Children and Family Services
