Team Tenements- Miller Primary and Langside Community Heritage
24 Oct 2018
"It's when someone is passing something on to you"
As part of this project we are bringing together Miller Primary School with Langside Community Heritage (LCH). Both the children and the heritage partners will work together to explore a source of local heritage and explore young people’s understandings and perceptions of heritage. The project will help strengthen the link between Miller Primary School and Langside Community Heritage (LCH) and will hopefully lead to the development of future pieces of work.
As part of the first stage of the process the group will be exploring their initial understandings and perceptions of heritage. As part of their class topic they will be investigating ‘the big flit’. The group will be taking on the role of investigators to explore what life was like for people during the 50’s/60’s when people moved from Glasgow City Centre to Castlemilk. The children will compare/contrast what they have found out with their lives today. The group have already been exploring Castlmilk through mapping activities. The group have suggested creating a tour of Castlemilk to share the places that are important to them.
At the end of the project the group will present what they have found out through their own exhibition which they will present to a younger class within the school. The hope is that this project will create a legacy and other classes within the school will start to take the lead with their own heritage projects.
