End Child Poverty in Scotland and the #GiveMe5 campaign

With 1 in 4 children in Scotland currently living in poverty, Children in Scotland is committed to making a change. It is our vision that all children in Scotland have an equal chance to flourish.

To support us in this aim we are active members of the End Child Poverty in Scotland campaign and the #GiveMe5 campaign.

End Child Poverty in Scotland

Children in Scotland meets with partners including Child Poverty Action Group in Scotland, The Poverty Alliance, Barnardo’s Scotland, One Parent Families Scotland, Children1st and Save the Children.

We discuss the Scottish policy context and identify how we can end child poverty in Scotland.

The campaign supported the call for a Child Poverty Bill in the Scottish Government consultation.

We supported the proposed income-based statutory targets and the proposed 2030 target for ending child poverty. We also called for interim targets to measure the progress of the Bill.

#GiveMe5

Children in Scotland is on the steering group of the #GiveMe5 campaign. We are working with partners from across the third sector, civil society and faith organisations to identify a solution to tackle child poverty in Scotland.

The campaign calls on MSPs to ensure that the Scottish Government includes a top up of Child Benefit by £5 per week in the 2018/19 budget.

A £5 top up to child benefit could lift 30,000 children out of poverty in Scotland.
