We're looking for new directors – apply today and help our work improving children's lives

Children in Scotland’s Chief Executive Jude Turbyne explains why becoming a board member of the charity could be such a great opportunity, our aim to appoint five new trustees including two young directors – and what you need to do to apply.

It's a great time to be working in the children’s sector in Scotland. The incorporation of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child into Scots law is on the horizon, the Promise is seeking to make radical changes to the way we care for our children and as a nation we now have ambitious targets for the reduction of child poverty. As Scotland’s largest national membership body for individuals and organisations seeking to improve the lives of children and young people, Children in Scotland has an important role to play in helping ensure that collectively we can deliver on these positive promises.

We are currently looking to appoint new members to our board. This is a great opportunity to join a supportive and dynamic board of a national charity. As an organisation we are committed to diversity and inclusion in all our work and, through this recruitment, will be seeking to bring people with diverse skills and backgrounds on to the board. As part of that drive, we are actively trying to change the age profile of our board: we want at least two of the new appointments to be younger directors (up to the age of 26).

We have developed a supportive board environment so, if this is your first time putting yourself forward as a charity trustee, this could be the right place for you.  All new directors will be given the induction and ongoing support necessary to be able to fully contribute to the board and its decision-making. 

We would be particularly pleased to hear from people who have skills in the areas of Children’s Rights, Finance and Fundraising.  However, if you don‘t have these specific skills and experience, please continue to read on.  If you are enthusiastic, committed and have an interesting set of skills to bring to the board, you still might be the right person for us.
