Inclusion Ambassadors film to get London screening

6 December 2019

A short film created by a group of disabled young people is to be screened in London this weekend.

The eight-minute film, Ask Us, Hear Us, Include Us, made by the Scottish Young Ambassadors for Inclusion group, considers what is working and what could be improved in relation to inclusion in education.

The film was planned and commissioned by Education Scotland, supported by Children in Scotland and produced by Media Co-op.

It looks at five themes identified by the Young Ambassadors as important for inclusion: friendship, belonging, awareness, positive attitudes and asking for support.

In the film, young people with disabilities express how it feels to be left out, the importance of respect, and the requirement to recognise different needs associated with different disabilities.

It has been selected to be screened at the Together! Disability Film Festival.

The festival, now in its eighth year, is committed to showing films by deaf or disabled filmmakers and those with a strong central deaf or disabled character.

It provides a platform for strong storytelling, highlighting the lived experienced of deaf or disabled people from diverse backgrounds and showcasing the talents of deaf / disabled filmmakers.

Cat Thomson, Enquire Manager (Partnerships), who supported the Inclusion Ambassadors group in making the film, said:

“It’s a fantastic achievement for our Inclusion Ambassadors to have this level of recognition of their work.

"This film is a wonderful resource which has allowed young people to express, in their own words, where – and how – we need to do better with inclusion. It is now up to us to work on taking that forward and helping to realise their recommendations.

“I’m delighted this film has been given this platform to share its important message.”

Ask Us, Hear Us, Include Us will be shown at the Together! Disability Film Festival, in Stratford, London on Sunday 8 December at 12 noon.
