An Equal Future? Scotland’s next steps for including LGBT children and young people
LGBT Youth Scotland and Children in Scotland are pleased to announce a landmark one-day conference that will explore the practical steps required to fulfil our ambitions for an inclusive Scotland.
At the intersection of Scotland’s Year of Young People and LGBT History Month – this conference aims to increase the skills of professionals across sectors in creating environments where lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender children and young people feel safe, supported and included.
With keynote speeches from figures at the forefront of research, policy and youth work delivery, we have curated a lively and thought-provoking programme which will launch LGBT Youth Scotland’s 2018 ‘Life in Scotland for LGBT Young People’ research findings gathered from more than 600 LGBT young people.
‘An Equal Future?’ will be shaped by the lived experiences of LGBT young people who will facilitate workshops and share the moments that defined their childhoods. Forming the basis for an agenda that challenges delegates to think beyond the here and now and consider a future vision of Scotland that is truly inclusive for all.
"As a children’s sector organisation we recognise the impact homophobia, biphobia and transphobia can have on children, young people and families. That’s why LGBT Youth Scotland and Children in Scotland have joined together for this event – we have a shared belief that all children and young people deserve to grow, learn and develop in inclusive and supportive environments, free from prejudice and discrimination. Through this event we hope to support the children and young people’s sector and seek to develop our own inclusive practice."
Simon Massey (Head of Engagement & Learning – Children in Scotland)
We invite all those who work directly with children, young people and families to take part and play a key role in shaping the future for LGBT children and young people. Whatever your role – there’s something on the agenda for you!
"We’re excited about this event – it will showcase innovative work and best practice, and will look to the future for LGBT young people in Scotland. Importantly, we hope it will reach out to new audiences and make a difference for LGBT young people growing up in Scotland."
Cara Spence (Senior Programmes & Influencing Manager - LGBT Youth Scotland)
An Equal Future? will take place on Thursday 1 February 2018.
