South Lanarkshire Council Issues Plea for More Adoptive Families

South Lanarkshire Council is calling for more people to consider adoption as children across the area continue to wait for permanent homes.

The council says children of all ages need loving, stable families, with particular demand for adopters willing to care for siblings, older children and youngsters with additional support needs.

Officials stressed that adopters can come from a wide range of backgrounds, including single people, couples and families with children already at home:

“You can apply to adopt if you are over 21 and can offer a safe, supportive home. You can be single, married, in a civil partnership or living with a partner for at least three years. You do not need to own your home or have a high income, but you must have a spare room and be able to care for a child into adulthood.

We welcome applications from all backgrounds. If you smoke or vape, we cannot accept an application.”
