My Rights, My Say Young Advisors
Who are the My Rights, My Say Young Advisors?
The My Rights, My Say Young Advisors are a group of young people with additional support needs aged 12-21 from across Scotland, who share their views and experiences of support at school. Their work shapes the My Rights, My Say service and aims to ensure that all children in Scotland are heard in decisions about their education.
The Young Advisors meet regularly to discuss a variety of topics related to additional support for learning and children’s rights to be heard. The views, experiences, and ideas that they share are used to inform My Rights, My Say, as well as being shared with Children in Scotland’s network of professionals, practitioners, and policymakers.
My Rights, My Say supports children in Scotland aged 12-15 with additional support needs to understand and exercise their rights to be involved in decisions about their learning. The Young Advisors support this work by providing a route for all elements of the My Rights, My Say service to hear directly from children and young people with additional support needs.
The relationship between the Young Advisors and My Rights, My Say is two-way. Sometimes, My Rights, My Say partners seek advice or understanding from the Young Advisors on a particular topic, where at other times, ideas, experiences, or themes raised by the Young Advisors are shared with My Rights, My Say and used to inform the future direction of travel for the service.
