Join the MRMS Young Advisors

Sector News

The My Rights, My Say Young Advisors group are looking for new recruits!

Who are the Young Advisors?

The Young Advisors are a group of young people working together to shape the My Rights My Say Service and share their views on additional support for learning.

Who can join?

We are looking for young people who are:

  • Aged 12-21
  • Entitled to additional support for learning in school

We would love to hear from young people who have used the My Rights, My Say service before, but you don’t need to have used it to become a Young Advisor.

What will it involve?

As a member of the group, you will attend in-person and online Young Advisor meetings. You will take part in activities where you can share your views on topics relating to additional support for learning.  We will share your views and ideas to people in charge of making big decisions, like the Scottish Government.

Being part of the group is an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of children and young people, learn new skills, meet new people, and have fun!

At meetings, you can choose how you would like to take part in activities, and the team at Children in Scotland will support you to share your views.

Who will I be working with?

As well as getting the chance to work with other young people, you will also be working with the team at Children in Scotland.

What is My Rights, My Say?

My Rights, My Say helps 12–15-year-olds with additional support needs to use their rights and have a say in decisions about their education.

The service is free, confidential, and completely independent

The Children’s Views service is managed by Children in Scotland. This service supporting children to express what they think and feel, in the way that works best for them.

The Independent Advocacy service is managed by Partners in Advocacy. Independent Advocacy is when someone supports a child or young person to share their views and be heard. They are on the young person’s side and can help to make sure their views are taken seriously in decisions that affect them.

The Legal Service is provided by Cairn Legal. This service provides expert legal advice and representation for children aged 12-15 with additional support needs. This service helps when there is a disagreement about a child’s support that cannot be resolved through school meetings or discussion.
