Changing Gears: young people’s views on bikeability, road safety, health and the environment
Children in Scotland was funded by Cycling Scotland and Transport Scotland to engage with children and young people about its Bikeability programme and more widely to share their opinions and experiences on road safety and health and wellbeing.
National co-design group
We initially worked with a national co-design group of children and young people from across Scotland in summer 2020. Building on existing findings from previous engagement work with children and young people, we explored their priorities relating to cycling, safety and health and wellbeing. They helped us identify the key topics to explore with other children and young people and develop engaging activities.
School engagement
In October 2020 6 primary schools from Perth and Kinross, Dundee and Moray took part in activities on these topics. Children in Scotland analysed the data from the children and have summarised the findings the children shared under key themes and Children in Scotland made recommendations for next steps for Cycling Scotland and Transport under the following themes:
- Exercise and Health And Wellbeing
- Place
- Safety
- Fun And Enjoyment
- Relationships
- Equipment
- Nature
- Education And Learning
- Participation
- Future Engagement
