The Scottish Refugee Council calls on rights protection of asylum-seeking children ahead of Holyrood Election

Campaigners have published a manifesto outlining what they want from Scotland’s next government in the run-up to the May elections.

The Scottish Refugee Council set out eight “asks” designed to shape refugee and asylum policy, highlighting the need to protect and expand support for people seeking safety in Scotland.

The document calls on political parties to retain the New Scots Refugee Integration Strategy, strengthen rights for people seeking asylum and tackle rising xenophobia and racism, amid increasing public debate about immigration. It says Scotland should build on its tradition of welcoming refugees and ensure human rights are at the heart of policy.

The Manifesto also calls for the protection of rights of all asylum-seeking children and young people, regardless of where they were born or how they arrived in Scotland.
