Inclusion Ambassadors’ principles of support planning
The Inclusion Ambassadors have today released their latest resource, Inclusion Ambassadors’ principles of support planning.
The Inclusion Ambassadors is a group of secondary school-aged pupils who each have a range of additional support needs and attend a variety of school provision. The group was established to ensure the views of young people with additional support needs are heard in discussions about education policy.
The Inclusion Ambassadors say that support planning should:
- Be centred around the child or young person
- Offer flexible ways to take part
- Be clear and consistent
- Communicate clearly and follow through
- Be reviewed regularly
- Account for exams and assessments
- Consider wider achievements and school life
The resource contains evidence from the Inclusion Ambassadors to support these principles and also offers advice on implementation.

Inclusion Ambassadors’ principles of support planning
The Inclusion Ambassadors have told us what good, person-centred support looks like from their perspective and developed their own principles of support planning. This new resource is intended to support all adults who are involved in additional support for learning to ensure that young people get what they need from their support.
