Chief Executive Judith Turbyne: “I’m keen to roll up my sleeves”

Children in Scotland has welcomed the Scottish Government’s Programme for Government 2026-2031, praising its emphasis on prevention, collaboration and support for the third sector.

Responding to the programme, Chief Executive Jude Turbyne said it contained a number of commitments that reflect long-standing priorities across the children’s sector.

Turbyne also welcomed what she described as a “particularly sharp focus on the third sector”, adding that voluntary organisations must be recognised as key partners in delivering services and improving outcomes for children and families.

“We need to make sure the third sector is a genuine partner in this. Hopefully, we can make that work through a partnership agreement with the statutory sector,” she said.

Children in Scotland also backed plans to expand multi-year funding arrangements, which Turbyne said would provide organisations with greater stability and allow them to focus on delivering support rather than navigating repeated funding processes.

“There is a good focus on multi-year funding. We all know that’s the way to go,” she said. “Wherever possible, investing in multi-year funding allows the sector to get on with the work, while minimising the administrative time it takes.”

Among the policy commitments highlighted by the organisation was a renewed focus on whole family support.

“In terms of our areas of policy focus, it’s great to see a renewed focus on whole family support,” Turbyne said. “We need more detail on that, but that’s fantastic.”

She also welcomed commitments around public service reform and additional support for learning, describing them as important areas for achieving lasting change.

Looking ahead, Turbyne said Children in Scotland is ready to work alongside government and partners across the sector to help deliver on the programme’s ambitions.
