Children in Scotland Conferences

Our conferences help us achieve one of our six strategic priorities – to lead and develop the children’s sector workforce so that it’s more skilled, knowledgeable, and better equipped to deliver improved outcomes for all children. We provide a vital opportunity for the children’s sector, along with young people themselves, to be heard and represented, and to exchange learning and best practices in order to make change.

Our Approach

Whilst we’re always open to exploring new ideas, we like to employ a consistent approach across all our conferences. This includes:

  • Keynote speakers who talk passionately about their learning, research, and personal perspectives
  • Workshops that allow people to share their latest findings
  • Working with children and young people to drive decisions about the event
  • Ensuring a clear crossover with our policy positions and our manifesto

Workshop Submissions

Demonstrating our commitment to amplifying the voice of the sector, ahead of our annual conference we appeal for ideas for workshops and carefully consider all submissions. For bespoke conferences, often delivered with partnership organisations, we select workshop ideas to best capture themes and meet delegates’ professional development needs.

Young people’s voices

Regardless of whether it’s our annual conference or bespoke conference event, the involvement of children and young people is of critical importance to us. For instance, at the 2022 annual conference, our youth advisory group was involved in shaping all aspects of the event.

Shawn, a member of the Changing our World advisory group, and co-chair of the 2025 event said:

All in all, this was an amazing experience that, I will remember for the rest of my life. I want to thank everyone involved in planning and organising the Annual Conference this year as well as my fellow members of Changing our World and the staff members of Children in Scotland. Without all your support I would not have had the amazing experience I did.

This commitment to young people’s input aligns with our 2021-26 Manifesto, the role of our youth advisory group, Changing our World, and our Participation Guidelines.
