Key Learnings:

- Obtain foundation level knowledge and understanding of managing group dynamics
- Explore how group process interfaces with Open Kindergarten approach (unstructured, parent and child led environment)
- Understand ways to encourage peer-to-peer relationships (adult and child) in an unstructured parent and child led environment
This training programme is aimed at early years practitioners who are delivering Open Kindergartens or supporting families in ways akin with the Open Kindergarten approach.
The Open Kindergarten partnership is pleased to provide group skills training for early years practitioners who are working within Open Kindergartens or are interested in finding out more about the principles of this Nordic approach. This training is fully funded by Scottish Government’s Whole Family Wellbeing Fund, as part of Phase 4 of the Open Kindergarten project led by Parenting Across Scotland, Midlothian Sure Start and Children in Scotland.
The role of the practitioner in creating a warm, supportive environment for an Open Kindergarten to flourish is crucial. As evidenced in the Phase 3 evaluation of the Open Kindergarten project, the potential for Open Kindergartens to provide cost-effective, low threshold support to help children and families flourish is centred around skilled practitioners creating the right conditions for peer support and community to develop.
Facilitators
Pamela Stein is a Service Manager with Early Years Scotland, Scotland’s national membership organisation for the early years sector and a charity committed to giving every child the best possible start in life. Early Years Scotland supports and champions the early years workforce while also delivering services for children and families in communities and prisons across Scotland.
With over 30 years’ experience working with children and families, Pamela brings a wealth of knowledge in professional learning, early years and family support.
