The teenage brain: implications for behaviour and learning
As part of our organisational response to the COVID-19 virus, Children in Scotland has adapted our training and events programme to a digital webinar format for the foreseeable future.

About this event
This workshop will focus on the adolescent brain and how it develops. It will explore why teenagers behave as they do, how they learn, and how they make decisions about their lives. You will learn how best to engage in these areas to ensure our young people receive the support they need to become healthy and happy individuals.

Jan is an experienced and knowledgeable trainer. She is an BACP Accredited Adult Psychotherapist, a Play and Creative Arts Therapist, an EMDR Practitioner, NLP Practitioner and qualified Personal and Corporate Coach. Jan has also completed a Certificate in Traumatic Stress with the Trauma Centre at Bessel van der Kolk’s Justice Resource Institute, Brookline. Jan also completed the Mindfulness Association Level 2 Certificate of Readiness to Teach their Mindfulness Based Living Course (MBLC).
Jan has worked in health and social care in various roles throughout her career. She worked with vulnerable and disadvantaged young people in the voluntary sector for almost a decade. This is where Jan developed an interest in working with attachment and trauma. She moved to working in foster care supporting children and carers of traumatised children. Jan then moved to work with adults with mental health challenges that prevented them from moving into employment.
Jan now has her own business offering training and consultancy. She also has a private psychotherapy and supervision practice. Jan is passionate about taking complex subjects and making them accessible to everyone. She believes that theories are important but understanding how they apply in practice is essential if we are to offer best practice to whose who access our services.
Jan loves learning new things. She enjoys being creative; embroidery and reading are just two of her favourite pastimes.
