As part of our organisational response to the COVID-19 virus, Children in Scotland has adapted our training and events programme to a digital webinar format for the foreseeable future.

Our webinar programme can be found here and will be updated regularly.

About this event

This seminar provides an understanding of the relationship between anxiety and autism, recognising the impact of anxiety on individuals with autism, and supports you to develop strategies to promote wellbeing.

You will receive a current overview of autism spectrum conditions, will understanding some of the reasons leading to raised anxiety for children and young people with autism, and will outline an action plan to take back to your setting.

Facilitator bio

Ruth Fidler is an experienced Education Consultant specialising in complex autism, Pathological Demand Avoidance, interactive approaches and emotional wellbeing. She worked at an all age non-maintained special school for 94 pupils across the autism spectrum for 22 years until 2014 since when she has worked independently. She provides training and consultation across the UK to support families and professionals work collaboratively in meeting the educational needs of children and young people with complex autism and PDA.

She has contributed to publications in the Good Autism Practice (GAP) journal on the subject of promoting emotional wellbeing and is co-author of two books, ‘Understanding Pathological Demand Avoidance syndrome in children’ (2012) and ‘Can I Tell You About Pathological Demand Avoidance?’ (2015).

She has been interviewed for TV by BBC and Channel 4 regarding educational provision for pupils with Pathological Demand Avoidance (both broadcast May 2015).
