Issue 189 Children in Scotland Magazine

Children in Scotland Magazine – Issue 189
Dec 2018-Jan 2019

The December- January issue of Children in Scotland magazine is a special edition, themed around the topic “How children can change the world”, marking the end of the Year of Young People and – we hope – the start of a greater focus across society on the values it set out to represent.

Our powerful cover features words from a poem by 15-year-old Changing our World member Ellie, which you can read in full alongside artwork created by other advisory group members (page 18).

Our feature interview sees the Minister for Mental Health respond to insightful questions posed by Changing our World members (page 6), while members of our participation team tell us what they learned from consulting children and young people on “what makes a good teacher” for the General Teaching Council Scotland (page 10).

In Agenda, members of the Children and Young People’s Panel on Europe explain the importance of including young people in the Brexit negotiations (page 22), and our Head of Policy Amy Woodhouse reflects on the Year of Young People (page 24).

And in Voices, 16-year-old Clara Gray gives a thoughtful account of how attending the European Network of Young Advisors conference convinced her that anyone can be a Human Rights Defender (page 28).

Children in Scotland magazine is packed with content – with contributions from ENABLE Scotland, Reach, Together, the TIE campaign and more.
