Update to our learning programme

As part of our organisational response to the COVID-19 virus, Children in Scotland has adapted our training and events programme to a digital webinar format for the foreseeable future.

Our webinar programme can be found here. This list of webinars will be added to regularly so please do revisit the site to see what’s new.

We believe it is important that the sector continues to build resilient networks, share helpful resources and develop the skills our workforce needs to provide high-quality support to children and young people.

As such we will be rescheduling and/or changing the format of our upcoming events. Please note that our Learning and Events team will be in touch with everyone who has booked a place at an April -May event to confirm arrangements.

About this event

Pioneer Friedrich Froebel's theory that ‘play is the highest expression of childhood development; it alone is the free expression of a child’s soul’ has been applied within early years establishments across the globe.

This workshop with the acclaimed Cowgate Under 5s Centre in Edinburgh explores practical ways to put Froebel’s theories into action in your own setting.

Key learning:

Practical ways to meet children’s needs in the following areas identified by Froebel:

Physical activity and sensory awareness
Creative expression and exploration of ideas
The experience of living among others.

Facilitator bio

At the Cowgate Under 5's, we pride ourselves on our approach to children's learning. The Centre is run with a strong, Froebelian influence, where the belief is that, through engaging with the world, understanding unfolds. Hence the significance of play - it is both a creative activity and through it children become aware of their place in the world.
