Making a difference: A day of learning for pupil support assistants

23/03/2019 09:30

About this event

This year Enquire, the Scottish advice service for additional support for learning, is offering a valuable training opportunity for pupil support assistants. In partnership with Renfrewshire Council and the national children’s service My Rights, My Say, we are pleased to offer a FREE event geared particularly to the needs of pupil support staff.

Pupil support assistants are vital members of the school team and their input can be a key factor in whether a child has a positive experience of school. They are often expected to juggle many different responsibilities from supporting the learning and teaching in class, to providing behaviour support to children who find the classroom environment stressful. They may be assisting children with health conditions who require medical interventions and providing emotional support to children struggling with issues at home or at school. Feeling valued, knowledgeable and confident in their role helps staff provide the right support and ensure the best outcomes for pupils which is why our learning and development day includes practical sessions on;

  • practising self-care
  • trauma informed practice
  • supporting pupils with mental health difficulties
  • managing distressed behaviour in the classroom
  • supporting pupils with working memory difficulties
  • incorporating children’s voices in practice

There will also be an opportunity to find out more about the advice and support available from Enquire and My Rights, My Say and learn more about resources that pupil support assistants may find helpful in their classroom practice.

Lunch will be provided and delegates will have the opportunity to enter a prize raffle.
