Children in Scotland Annual Conference 2012
Every child, Every childhood
Ref: 1653 - Conference
In partnership with Fife Council and NHS Fife
Changes are taking place across children’s services that have the potential to improve the lives of all Scotland’s children. We are proud that Scotland is playing a leading role in developing these new approaches internationally. But in Scotland, how ready are we to see these changes through and realise their potential?
Laws ensuring children's rights are about to be strengthened. Young people at risk or with additional support needs have rights to extra support. We are on the cusp of enshrining the right to 600 hours education and care for pre-school children. The importance and commitment to early years has never been stronger. Our education system is being transformed and the importance of parenting is recognised across a range of services.
We are responsible for improving children's lives. Are we fully prepared for implementing these changes which we have worked so hard to secure? What more do we need to do to prepare and to respond effectively to the current and forthcoming legislation and guidance? What more must we do to make the current examples of good practice the norm?
Looking further forward, with the forthcoming debate on whether independence is the answer for Scotland, what questions should we ask all politicians about how independence, increased devolved powers or indeed the status quo, would benefit children and their families?
The Children in Scotland Annual Conference brings together professionals, policy makers and experts from across the children’s services sector in Scotland and abroad to debate the way ahead, and consider how the sector can achieve its aim of better childhoods for all children.
