Arts Education in Practice

Professional development Award

Children in Scotland managed the national pilot project of the Arts Education in Practice Professional Development Award - a new SQA accredited qualification for arts practitioners who are working in either formal or informal education and community contexts in Scotland.

The pilot project ran in 2009 and was supported by the Scottish Arts Council.

This qualification provides arts practitioners from across all art forms with a basic understanding of the planning and teaching process, the organisation of learning scenarios, relevant legislation, processes of engagement within different settings with different client groups and of developing sessions and programmes of work that promote an informed level of practice.

There were 19 artists on the pilot course, which took place in two locations: Eden Court Theatre in Inverness and Tramway in Glasgow.
The course finished in June 2009 and a full report is available for download here detailing the outcomes of the pilot project.

Arts publications

As part of our commitment to sharing good practice and information, Children in Scotland has a number of arts and art-related publications which are available either for download or purchase, please click here.

Art competitions
Children in Scotland regularly runs national children's art competitions, often tied in to the theme of our European or annual conference that year.

There is a commitment within the organisation to supporting and nurturing the arts, and our competitions encompass all media, and invite entries from young people of all ages.
