Practical ways to support children with attachment issues day to day
Attachment is the tie or bond of affection which forms between the child and his or her main carer. Insecure attachments leave children vulnerable and their development processes are incomplete when they reach school age impacting on those adults who are responsible for their care and education.
We Can and Must Do Better (2007) stresses the aim of the Scottish Government to improve outcomes for looked after children, and school establishment inspections will evaluate the degree to which such improvements have been achieved.

Who should attend: . This workshop is appropriate for those working with in a wide variety of settings across both the statutory and voluntary sectors, including those involved in social work, residential care, fostering, teachers and classroom assistants, community education and youth workers.
Gerry Shields - Gerry has taught in all sectors of education from primary to secondary, from mainstream to special education. Working as Depute and Acting Head in the E.B.D. sector, he used a Whole School Approach to turn a failing school into a sector leading one and as Quality Improvement Officer and he advised, supported and challenged schools and nurseries in turning ideas and concepts of National Government and local Authority into practice. His responsibility has covered areas of inclusion, pupil support, learning support, mental well being, mediation and restorative approaches to resolving conflict from nursery, primary to secondary, as well as quality assurance responsibility in preparation for H.M.I.E.
