 Children in Scotland member event Managing performance, especially poor performance, is one of the most difficult parts of any manager’s job. Not infrequently, in dealing with poor performers, sickness absence presents itself as an additional challenge.
Kitbag for Families is an approach and a set of resources to help children grow up calm and confident, building relationships in families of all shapes and sizes. Developed by health professionals and award-winning designers, Kitbag for Families can be used from the age of three to adulthood. It would be an especially useful tool for those working with families experiencing turmoil or coping with distressing events as it helps facilitate individual expression as well as encouraging cohesiveness. However, any worker involved with children and/or families trying to navigate changes would find it helpful. This half-day introductory training session is for those who would like to learn more about Kitbag for Families, its background philosophy, its contents and how to use it. Kitbags will be available to buy on the day.
This course is suitable for any workers who want to help the children and young people in their care to cope with the challenges of their weight issues 1.1 million people in the UK are directly affected by an eating disorder, and anorexia is the leading cause of mental health related deaths. This condition mostly develops during the teenage years. At the same time existing high levels of childhood obesity are increasing in the western world. One third of children and young people are overweight or obese and this is estimated to double by 2050.
Children in Scotland member event Good governance is essential for the success of any charity and there is a tremendous amount of guidance available from various sources including OSCR, umbrella charities and agencies. However, it can still be very challenging for any one individual charity to be sure that its own particular circumstances, board management structures and procedures actually do comply.
Every child, Every childhood Children in Scotland’s annual conference is the flagship event for the children’s sector, bringing together all those who are making a difference to the lives of children and young people in Scotland. As we celebrate 20 years working for every child and every childhood this event offers a unique opportunity to meet and collaborate with policy makers, practitioners and experts from across the sector; to share ideas and knowledge, and to instigate positive change in the lives of all Scotland’s children. While the Children and Young People’s Act becomes reality, support for children and families is feeling the pressure of austerity measures. This makes it more vital than ever to keep children and young people at the centre of our work for the future.
